FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Valorena Publishing Launches Health Explorers™ Teen Health and Career Program in Pearl River

Six-week fall program will introduce teens ages 13–18 to health literacy, communication, leadership and healthcare career pathways

PEARL RIVER, N.Y., September 10, 2026 — Valorena Online, LLC, doing business as Valorena Publishing, has opened registration for Health Explorers™ Fall 2026: Teen Health & Careers, a six-week learning experience designed to help young people build practical health knowledge while exploring careers, community health and leadership.

The program will meet Saturdays, September 26 through October 31, from 1:00–3:00 p.m., at 1 Blue Hill Plaza in Pearl River, New York. It is open to young people ages 13–18.

Created through Valorena’s Literacy for Health™ initiative, Health Explorers combines interactive instruction with hands-on activities, discussion, journaling, community experiences and career exposure. Participants will learn how to find, understand and use health information; examine food and nutrition information; explore healthcare and health-related careers; consider the role of community resources in health; and learn more about caring for themselves and others.

“Health literacy is something young people can begin developing long before they are responsible for managing healthcare on their own,” said Dr. Valerie Williams-Sanchez, PMP, founder of Valorena Online and creator of Literacy for Health™.

“Health Explorers gives teens a place to ask questions, practice making sense of health information and discover the many different ways they can contribute to healthier families and communities.”

The program also broadens the traditional idea of a healthcare career. Participants will be introduced to pathways spanning patient care, community health, health systems and health and medical entrepreneurship, with opportunities to learn from professionals working across the field.

Rather than relying solely on classroom instruction, Health Explorers is structured as an experience. Sessions incorporate practical challenges and exploration, culminating in a team-based finale challenge in which participants draw upon what they have learned throughout the six weeks.

Williams-Sanchez developed the program from her work in health literacy, strategic communication, education and community engagement.

“Ultimately, we want young people to leave knowing that health information belongs to them,” she said. “They should feel more confident asking questions, finding credible information, making informed decisions and recognizing that there may be a place for them in the health field as well.”

Registration is now open. Families, educators, youth organizations, community groups and others who work with teens are encouraged to share the opportunity with young people throughout Rockland County and surrounding communities.
